A Gujarati family from Nadiad in Gujarat’s Kheda district lost their lives in a devastating fire at a motel in the US state of Ohio. The victims, who had been living and working in the United States for the past two years, died after a late-night fire broke out at the motel where they stayed.
The deaths of the three family members have left their relatives and the people of Nadiad in deep shock.
Fire breaks out after midnight
According to available information, Hitesh Suthar, his wife Heena Suthar and their 20-year-old daughter Ishani were living at the Econo Lodge motel in Wooster, Ohio.
Hitesh worked at the motel, and the family lived in the staff quarters on the property. The fire broke out around 1:30 am local time while the family was asleep. Within minutes, the flames spread rapidly, sending thick smoke and large flames through parts of the building.
Family sought help during the fire
As the fire intensified, Hitesh and his family contacted the motel reception and asked for help.
They were reportedly advised to take shelter inside the bathroom, turn on the water and remain there until rescue teams arrived. Following the advice, the family locked themselves inside the bathroom in an attempt to escape the flames and smoke.
Husband, wife and daughter die
Despite rescue efforts, the fire spread quickly and became difficult to control. Firefighters worked to rescue people trapped in the rear section of the motel, making repeated attempts to reach those inside. However, by the time they reached the family, it was too late.
Hitesh, Heena and their daughter Ishani died due to smoke inhalation after the bathroom filled with toxic smoke.
The fire caused extensive damage to the rear section of the motel. Images of the damaged building have also circulated on social media.
According to available information, there are no reports of injuries to any other person in the incident.
Investigation underway
Local police and forensic teams have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Officials are examining how the blaze started and whether any factors contributed to the incident.
Nadiad mourns the loss
The Suthar family had moved to the United States around two years ago in search of a better future. News of the tragic deaths of all three family members has deeply saddened their relatives and residents of Nadiad, where the family’s sudden loss has left the community in mourning.
