Agneepath Bharti Pravesh Yojana To Open Up New Avenues For Youth In Military Recruitment

| Updated: April 7, 2022 08:51

A major improvement will soon open up new avenues for the recruitment of youth into the military. The government is preparing to implement the ‘Agneepath Bharti Pravesh Yojana’, which is its final stage of implementation. The security forces – Army, Air Force and Navy have given presentations to senior government officials who have endorsed the plan.

According to the plan, young men in all the three wings of the army will be recruited as soldiers for three years and will be known as ‘Agnivirs’. This will reduce the average age of the armed forces and the government will not be burdened by their retirement benefits and pensions.

Security forces will have the option to keep some firefighters in service. The concept of ‘Agneepath Bharti Pravesh Yojana’ called ‘Tour of Duty’ was conceptualized two years ago. The first trial was carried out in the Armed Forces Medical Service when the military offered to the doctors, who had retired in 2017 during the Corona period, to return and offer their services.

Soldiers involved in the Tour of Duty scheme will be on a short-term contract and will be trained. This will be followed by their deployment in Jammu and Kashmir and the North-East regions and will be tasked with combating terrorist activities, gathering military intelligence and getting skilled in various aspects of information technology.

After the disciplined and rigorous training of the Armed Forces, if these youngsters enter the professional military world, they will have a special position and the Armed Forces will have an option of recruiting such youngsters with special military and intelligence related tasks.

Key Highlights of the plan:

  • Young people, who lost their direction towards their recruitment in the security forces by any reason, will also get a chance to join the army.
  • The corporate world will be able to recruit them to the army only during their contract service period of three years.
  • Permanent recruitment of capable youths in the army will be an open potential option.
  • Youngsters from IITs and other professional streams will also be able to join the Army, Air Force or Navy.
