Ahmedabad’s New Karnavati Club Membership Hit By Langa Case

| Updated: August 29, 2023 16:47

The membership drive for the upcoming new club by Karnavati Club in Mulasana near Ahmedabad has faced a setback with the recent arrest and judicial detention of former Gandhinagar collector SK Langa on charges of amassing disproportionate assets. It has been reported that Langa’s actions resulted in a Rs 20 crore loss to the government exchequer through unauthorised file clearances during his tenure.

The police have uncovered evidence of Langa’s corrupt dealings, particularly in lands situated at Pethapur and Mulasana.

According to insiders at the club, this development has caused many potential members to hesitate in joining the new Karnavati Club, located approximately 30 km away from the existing club on SG Highway. The club is being developed on a sprawling 2 lakh sq yard and membership drive started in February this year.

Karnavati Club sources said, “The Rajpath Club, which also launched its membership campaign during the same period for its new establishment sprawling across over 1.60 lakh sq yards in Vyana village of Kalol taluka, has already attracted around 1,300 members.”

“In contrast, the new Karnavati Club has managed around 850 memberships so far, despite its membership fee being lower than that of the new Rajpath Club. This disparity is seemingly attributed to the SK Langa case, prompting people to exercise caution and adopt a wait-and-watch approach.”

Although the Rajpath Club management has raised its membership fees for new club from Rs 7.25 lakh plus 18% GST to Rs 8 lakh plus GST for a one-time payment, and from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 9 lakh plus 18% GST for installment payments, the new Karnavati Club’s rates remain consistent — Rs 7.25 lakh plus 18% GST for a one-time payment, and Rs 8 lakh plus 18% GST for the installment payment option.

A representative of the Club management said, “We are committed to the progress of our new club, and our work is well underway. We’ve successfully garnered around 850 members from the initial 1,000 forms distributed.” The official said, “This issue doesn’t impact our property acquisition, as we executed due diligence during the purchase process.”
