Air India Express Crew Goes On “Mass Sick Leave”, 86 Flights Cancelled

Eighty Six Air India Express flights were canceled after around 300 senior cabin crew members called in sick at the last minute and switched off their mobile phones.

The management of Air India Express is currently trying to reach out to the crew protesting against the Tata Group-owned airline’s new working conditions. It has caused flight delays and cancellations in international and domestic flights.

Air India Express spokesperson said : ” While we work with the team to understand the cause of these incidents, our teams are actively addressing the issue to minimize any potential inconvenience to our guests”

The Airline has announced that Guests affected by the cancellation will be offered a full refund or free rescheduling.

“We sincerely apologize to our guests . our guests for this unexpected disruption and emphasize that this situation does not reflect the level of service we strive to provide,” the spokesperson added.

What Are They Protesting Against?

The protesting staff claim that some workers were offered lower positions despite interviews. They also argue that key parts of the compensation package have been changed or removed. They also allged thatthe airline management is silencing dissent.

The Air India Express crisis comes a month after Tata Group’s full-service airline Vistara faced cancellation due to pilot issues.

There has been discontent among pilots at Vistara, which will be merged with Air India, after the signing of new contracts amid concerns about the airline’s pilot roster.
