Amazon Takes ED To Delhi HC On Account Of Harassment

| Updated: December 24, 2021 20:59

Indian e-commerce giant Amazon India has taken the Enforcement Directorate to the Delhi High Court over an inquiry conducted by the latter regarding the Future Group deal of 2019. With their petition Amazon is seeking a relief from the probe by the ED which they allege is going beyond the scope and power of the agency.

In the matter, the  Enforcement Directorate on February 19 issued a notice to Amazon India seeking details about the big vendors on the platform, internal communication of the company, bank details and other details which Amazon has alleged that is much beyond the scope of the probe.

In their petition Amazon has submitted that,”The Enforcement Directorate cannot compel Amazon to submit privileged legal advice and legal opinions given by law-firms/advocates and legal counsel of Amazon.”

They further alleged in their petition that, ” the request for information/documents does not limit itself to the investment in the Future Group but also pertains to the sellers who offer goods/services on the online platform..” With their petition the e-commerce giant has alleged harassment by the agency.

After Amazon’s deal with Future Group in 2019 many legal battles pertaining to the matter are going on in the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, different tribunals and in Singapore International Arbitration Center.
