When Ahmedabad was hit by torrential rains on the night of July 10, Sunday, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) geared up for waterlogging situations in the city. During the evening the city witnessed rainfall of 18 inches and saw roads and areas drowned in knee-deep water. Traffic came to a standstill. Those who were commuting had to trudge through flowing waters. Many vehicles stopped working and people had to abandon them on the roads.
In these circumstances, AMC got to work and deployed teams and equipment to ensure that the waterlogging situation is brought under control as soon as possible. The teams set out on foot with a total of 75 water pumps so as the dispose of the stagnant water. The same work was carried out in basements of apartments and societies which were flooded with water. AMC officials and engineers have continued to visit the said societies and apartments to keep a check on the situation and also clear drainage systems in the area.
Traffic was badly affected due to waterlogging in several parts of Ahmedabad as the city witnessed heavy downpours on Sunday evening. Many areas like Shyamal Cross Roads, Prahladnagar Corporate Road, Ranip, Juhapura, and other parts of the city witnessed waterlogging. Internal roads of the city witnessed lake-like scenes. Vehicular movement is still affected in the city even after 12 hours of rain.
