| Updated: December 23, 2022 13:58

The 3.5 kilometre flyover in Vadodara city is all set to open. The flyover connecting Genda Circle and Manisha Chowkdi will ease out the traffic woes of citizens and is expected to shorten the time to reach between two points to a great extent. The flyover is made at the cost of Rs 230 crore. The state government has allocated Rs 100 crore as its contribution.

The BJP ruled Vadodara Municipal Corporation through it’s Land and Estate Department had proposed to name the flyover after former Prime Minister  Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Congress on the other hand proposed the name of  king of the erstwhile state of Baroda, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III.

Put up before the Standing Committee, the name “Atal Bridge” got final approval based on the request of  Mayor Keyur Rokadia. The Mayor Keyur Rokadia contested and won on a BJP ticket from Sayajigunj constituency in the recently held assembly elections.

The Civic body members intended to  pay tribute to the former prime minister for  his leadership. The proposal to name the flyover Atal Bridge, also highlighted Vajpayee’s achievements during his political career

Gujarat Chief Minister Bupendra Patel will inaugurate the flyover on Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary on 25th December, which is also observed as Good Governance Day.
