BSF Jawan Pressured Severely In Pak, Wasn’t Even Allowed To Brush His Teeth

| Updated: May 15, 2025 14:40

BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, who was released and handed over to Indian authorities at the Attari-Wagah border, was severely traumatised by his captors in Pakistan to the extent that he wasn’t even allowed to brush his teeth.

According to reports, Shaw was blindfolded, deprived of sleep, and verbally abused in Pakistan.

Shaw was taken to three undisclosed locations within Pakistan, one near an airbase where he heard the sounds of aircraft overhead.

At one of the locations where Shaw was held, he was shoved into a cramped, oppressive jail cell. Reports claim that some Pakistani officials, disguised as civilians, pressured him to reveal sensitive information about BSF deployments along the border.

They sought details about the senior officers stationed there. However, Shaw refused to reveal any secrets. In strict adherence to Indian army’s protocols, he didn’t carry a mobile phone.

The episode wore him down psychologically, although Pakistan spared him of physical torture.

Upon his eventual release, Shaw was granted a moment to speak with his family and was swiftly subjected to a formal debriefing. Later, it was confirmed that he was stable physically and mentally but the trauma of his ordeal was evident.

Following standard protocol, the clothes Shaw had worn during his captivity were thoroughly inspected and discarded.

Pakistan Rangers apprehended him on April 23 after he inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory while on duty in the Ferozepur sector.
