On Monday, Gujarat experienced a significant drop in temperatures, marking the arrival of colder winter conditions across the state. Naliya recorded the lowest temperature of 7.8°C, which is 3.1°C below the normal temperature expected for this time of year.
The sudden chill was felt in several major cities, with Ahmedabad, Baroda and Rajkot all experiencing relatively cold mornings. The minimum temperatures in these cities were reported as 14.0°C, 12.0°C and 11.0°C respectively, contributing to the overall cooling trend in the region.
In addition to these cities, other parts of Gujarat also experienced a notable dip in temperature. Areas like Amreli (9.6°C), Dahod (8.1°C) and Deesa (9.9°C) recorded similar temperature drops, further underscoring the intensifying winter conditions across the state. These cooler temperatures reflect the ongoing shift into the colder phase of the winter season.
Coastal regions, however, remained relatively warmer compared to the inland areas. For example, the coastal towns of Veraval and Okha reported temperatures of 18.5°C and 20.4°C respectively, which are noticeably higher than those in the inland cities. These areas tend to have milder winter conditions due to their proximity to the sea, which has a moderating effect on the climate.
Alongside the temperature drop, the region also saw varied levels of humidity. Kandla, a port city, recorded the highest morning humidity at 87%, indicating a relatively moist atmosphere in that area. On the other hand, Naliya reported the lowest humidity levels at just 22%, suggesting drier conditions in the northern part of the state.
The weather department has attributed the drop in temperatures to a combination of clear skies and the influence of northerly winds. These winds are known to bring cooler air from the northern regions, contributing to the decrease in temperatures. The prevailing weather conditions signal the onset of a colder phase in Gujarat, with more chilly mornings expected in the coming days.
