Cong Leader Held For Sharing Obscene Pic Of Ayodhya Temple Priest On Social Media

| Updated: December 13, 2023 12:54

Gujarat Congress leader Hitendra Pithadiya has been arrested in Ahmedabad for allegedly sharing an obscene picture on social media and claiming that the man in the photo was the priest of the under-construction Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The 44-year-old allegedly shared objectionable pictures claiming to be that of Mohit Pandey, one of the priests selected to serve at the temple.

Pithadiya, a resident of Ahmedabad’s Vejalpur area, was arrested based on a complaint filed by Vaibhav Makwana, a BJP leader from Bodakdev, who stated that the Congress leader took to X on Monday to share objectionable pictures of Pandey with “an intention to harm the reputation of Hindu saints and knowing that an ugly picture of a woman (with Pandey) will go viral with a selfish purpose”.

The accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act.

“Pithadiya told us that he found the pictures on the internet. He downloaded and posted them. But we’ll investigate the case further,” Ahmedabad Cyber Crime police inspector PH Makwana said.
