The distribution of condom packets and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) to guests at a Pune pub’s New Year’s Eve celebration sparked a stir. These items were provided to the guests alongside the invitations for the party being hosted by the High Spirits pub on December 31.
Political groups have objected to the pub’s actions, and the Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress has complained to Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar about it.
“We have nothing against nightlife or pubs. However, the marketing approach used to draw in young people goes against Pune’s traditions. We demand that the police take strict action against the pub management,” Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress member Akshay Jain said on Monday.
“Such actions risk sending a false message to the youth, possibly fostering misunderstandings and promoting inappropriate practices in society,” Jain added.
The business owners stated that “distributing condoms is not a crime” during the police investigation that began after they received the complaint.
According to the pub, the purpose of distributing the items was to raise awareness among young people, encourage responsible conduct and promote safety.
