The Directorate of Estates (DoE), which comes under the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, has slapped an eviction notice on the Congress leadership to vacate the accommodation in Chanakyapuri in the Lutyen’s Bungalow Zone.
The C-11/109 was once a powerful address in central Delhi as it was occupied by George, secretary of Sonia Gandhi. Although George no longer stays in that flat, it’s still in the Congress party’s possession. Moreover, the party has illegally allowed other members to stay in the flat.
In the eviction notice, the DoE has said the flat in Delhi’s posh locality has been under “unauthorised occupation.” Hence, it should be vacated. It noted the allotment for the accommodation had been cancelled since June 2013 by the DoE.
In a recent RTI reply, the directorate revealed that the property’s total dues stood close to Rs 3.01 crore as the rent was last paid in August 2013.
In February, the DoE sent a notice to the Congress party to pay the pending rent and dues for three properties: premises where the Seva Dal operates from, the official residence of the Congress party and George’s flat.
