Gujarat: Covid Deaths On Rise Even As Active Cases Decline

Gujarat continued to add more Covid-19 fatalities with 35 people succumbing to infection on Monday even as the daily Covid infections are on decline. The state on Monday recorded 6,679 cases, of which 265 patients are on ventilator support. The state had 9,395 cases and 30 deaths yesterday.

Of the total Covid cases recorded in last 24 hours, Ahmedabad logged the highest number with 2,350 patients and six deaths. Besides Ahmedabad city, Vadodara (809), Rajkot (602), Gandhinagar (288), and Surat Corporation (277), recorded maximum cases.

The districts of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot — including the city and rural jurisdictions — reported 4,639 new cases, accounting for 70% of the day’s new cases.

On fatalities front, Ahmedabad had seven deaths, Vadodara had for, Rajkot had three, Gandhinagar had one, Surat had seven, Mehsana, Valsad, Amreli and Jamnagar had one deaths each. Bhavnagar had five deaths, while Probandar, Botad and Devbhumi Dwarka recorded one deaths each.

Scenario Across India

India’s daily Covid curve showed marginal improvement as the country reported 2,09,918 cases on Sunday — 10 per cent lower than yesterday’s 2.34 lakh cases — taking the total infection tally to 4.13 crore. The active cases stand at 18,31,268, now comprising 4.43 per cent of total cases.

The daily positivity rate is up from 14.5 per cent to 15.77 per cent while the weekly positivity rate stands at 15.75 per cent. As many as 959 people have died of Covid during the past 24-hour period, according to the Health Ministry, higher in comparison to previous days as Kerala added 374 fatalities to its backlog.

In the ongoing Covid vaccination drive across the country, 166.03 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far. Over 75 per cent of the country’s adult population is now fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
