Due To My Wife’s Ultimatum, I Couldn’t Play James Bond: Liam Neeson

| Updated: February 23, 2023 08:41

If not for personal difficulties involving the actor Liam Neeson, he was on the verge of assuming the legendary role of James Bond.

The actor said in a recent interview that he was initially interested in taking on the role of the spy, but his wife Natasha Richardson threatened to divorce him if he accepted the role. The role eventually went to actor Daniel Craig.

He stated that the producer Barbara Broccoli called him several times in the 1990s to inquire about his interest in playing Agent 007. Liam had been nominated for an Oscar at that time for his performance in the Steven Spielberg film, Schindler’s List. The actor found it difficult to accept the renowned role at the time because his late wife Natasha had given him an ultimatum.

He said, “Liam, I want to tell you something: If you play James Bond, we’re not getting married. She gave me a James Bond ultimatum, and she meant it! Come on, there’s all those gorgeous girls in various countries getting into bed and getting out of bed. I’m sure a lot of her decision-making was based on that!”

Actor Daniel Craig, later, assumed the character of James Bond, portraying the legendary spy in five movies: Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021).
