ED Raids Against Gangster Atiq Ahmed End

| Updated: April 14, 2023 11:55

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has completed its recent raids against gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his associates, recovering various documents related to bank accounts, assets, and gold jewellery worth Rs 2.5 crore. The raids were conducted as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation, according to sources.

On the other hand, the bodies of Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and his aide Ghulam are set to be brought to Prayagraj from Jhansi today. Asad’s maternal kin will receive his body, which will then be taken to a family graveyard at Kasari Masari in Prayagraj for burial.

Asad and Ghulam were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case and were killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi on Thursday.

Asad, along with another accused named Ghulam, had been wanted in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj, where Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder case of then BSP MLA Raju Pal, was shot dead along with his two police security guards outside his home on February 24 of this year.

According to Special Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prasahant Kumar, Asad and Ghulam were carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh each and have been killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) team. He also mentioned that the STF team was led by Deputy SP Navendu and Vimal and that sophisticated foreign-made weapons were recovered from the accused.

Based on a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal, a case was registered on February 25 against Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf, Asad, Ghulam, and others. The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rioting, murder, attempt to murder, and criminal intimidation.

Atiq Ahmed himself is also an accused in the 2005 Raju Pal murder case.
