Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla (TSLA.O), said in Norway on Monday that the globe must continue to extract oil and gas to sustain civilization and to develop sustainable sources of energy as well.
“Realistically I think we need to use oil and gas in the short-term, because otherwise, civilisation will crumble,” Musk said.
Talking about whether Norway should continue to drill for oil and gas, Musk said: “I think some additional exploration is warranted at this time.
“One of the biggest challenges the world has ever faced is the transition to sustainable energy and a sustainable economy … that will take some decades to complete,” the billionaire said.
He claimed that fixed battery packs and offshore wind power generation in the North Sea might become a significant source of energy. “It could provide a strong, sustainable energy source in winter,” he said.
