Elvish Yadav, winner of Bigg Boss OTT 2, is at the centre of fresh controversy after making derogatory remarks about actress Chum Darang during a podcast with Rajat Dalal on The Little Adda Company. The comments, which were shared widely on social media, quickly initiated outrage from netizens, many accusing the YouTuber and reality TV star of crossing the line in his remarks.
In the viral podcast clip, Yadav commented on Darang’s name and her role in Gangubai Kathiawadi, saying, “Karan Veer must have had COVID or else how could he like someone like Chum? How come someone’s taste be so bad? Chum, the name itself is so vulgar. She is named Chum and then she worked in a film like Gangubai Kathiawadi.”
The remarks were met with immediate backlash, with viewers calling out both Yadav and Dalal for using disrespectful language despite their public platforms.
In response to the widespread criticism, Rajat Dalal took to Instagram to clarify that the comments were scripted.
He explained during an “Ask Me Anything” session that the remarks were pre-planned and that both he and Yadav were given scripts to read.
“Whatever roast you have seen, that was scripted. Elvish and I were given scripts and were told to say those things to generate hype. Certain things were deliberately included to create a buzz. We didn’t know they would actually include those parts. I trusted them and said those things, but they broke my trust by keeping them in. Elvish also didn’t say anything of his own; he was getting instructions through his earpiece and simply repeated what he was told,” Dalal explained.
The controversy escalated further when the video was shared on Reddit, where users condemned Yadav for his comments.
Many demanded strict action, accusing him of casual racism and character assassination. The backlash was particularly intense given Chum Darang’s growing popularity after her appearance on Bigg Boss 18.
While Karan Veer Mehra won the show, Darang was a fan favourite due to her strong gameplay and personality. She had earned praise from host Salman Khan for her thoughtful contributions during the Weekend Ka Vaar episodes.
Chum Darang, who has starred in Badhaai Do (2022), Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), and Paatal Lok (2020), has not yet publicly responded to the controversy.
She is currently in her hometown of Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, and has been sharing moments of her homecoming on Instagram.
