Emergency Exit Case: Cong Targets Tejasvi Surya Amidst IndiGo’s Silence

| Updated: January 18, 2023 11:41

After boarding at Chennai Airport last month, a passenger unintentionally opened the emergency exit, prompting the flight to do required technical inspections before taking off for Tiruchirapalli, according to an announcement from the airline on Tuesday.

The Congress has alleged that the BJP MP, Tejasvi Surya, was the passenger who opened the plane’s emergency exit.

Why the administration kept the tragedy hidden for such a long time has also been questioned. So yet, Surya and his office have not responded to the accusations. A passenger on flight 6E 7339 from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli on December 10, 2022, unintentionally opened the emergency exit while boarding, according to a statement released by IndiGo on Tuesday.

‘The passenger immediately apologised for the action. As per SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), the incident was logged and the aircraft underwent mandatory engineering checks, which led to a delay in the flight’s departure,’ it said.

Meanwhile, in a series of tweets, Karnataka Congress said, ‘Tejasvi Surya is an example of what will happen if children playing games are given the proprietorship. An act of children’s mischief by trying to open the emergency exit door of the plane has come to light. Why prank with the lives of passengers?’

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) senior official stated on Tuesday that the incident had been properly reported and that no safety had been compromised. The passenger may have unintentionally opened the Right-Hand emergency exit while the flight was on the ground, the official claims.

‘The crew took note and resultantly, all appropriate airworthiness action such as reinstalling of door, pressurisation check etc were carried out before the release of the aircraft for departure. No safety was compromised,’ the official said.

‘What was the MP’s intention? What plans were there to create a disaster? Why was he transferred to the back seat after apologising?’ the Congress asked while questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to who would have been responsible for the disaster if this ‘prank’ had been carried out after take-off.
