Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) was officially recognised in the Congressional Record for its service to the Indian-American community. For decades, Ramesh Patel has led the FIA. The 50-year-old organisation is active in the three states with a large Gujarati population, namely, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.
In his address, Raja Krishnamoorthi, the representative for Illinois’ 8th District, praised the FIA as it honours India’s 75th year of independence as well as Asian Heritage Month.
“Over the course of five decades, FIA has planned several outreach activities to provide community assistance and showcase Indian culture and heritage,” according to the document. I salute FIA’s selfless efforts to serve and enhance the Indian-American community,” his address noted.
The FIA’s chairman, Ankur Vaidya, described it as a great honour. “The move would very certainly bring the two countries closer. We have concentrated on our purpose of empowering, improving and assisting communities,” he explained.
