Forensic Student’s Chilling Modus Operandi in Live-in Partner’s Murder Uncovered

|New Delhi | Updated: October 27, 2025 19:22

How a 21 yr old forensics student murdered her boyfriend

Police investigating the brutal murder of a UPSC aspirant in Delhi’s Timarpur area have unveiled the chilling modus operandi of the accused, his 21-year-old live-in partner. A BSc forensic science student, the woman allegedly leveraged her academic knowledge and a fascination with crime shows to meticulously plan the murder and deliberately stage the crime scene as an accident.

The elaborate plot, executed on October 6, was reportedly driven by revenge after the victim allegedly created and refused to delete obscene videos of the accused.

The Motive: Revenge for Blackmail

The investigation confirmed that the relationship between the victim and the accused, which began in May this year, rapidly deteriorated.

  • Discovery and Refusal: The breaking point came when the woman discovered her partner had recorded obscene videos of her. When she confronted him and demanded he delete the content, he allegedly refused and sought to humiliate her, leading the accused to feel “trapped and angry.”
  • Conspiracy: Fueled by rage, the student reportedly confided in her ex-boyfriend. The two, along with another associate, allegedly conspired to not only kill the victim but also to ensure all evidence was completely destroyed.

The Modus Operandi: Staging the ‘Accidental’ Fire

The police highlighted that the accused used her specialized knowledge to create a false narrative of accidental death by fire.

Element of Modus OperandiExecution DetailsPurpose
Method of MurderThe trio allegedly strangled and beat the victim to death on the night of October 5.To ensure death and prevent resistance before staging the scene.
Accelerants UsedThe culprits doused the victim’s body with a mixture of ghee (clarified butter) and alcohol. To create a highly combustible environment, ensuring the body was severely burnt and that the fire was intense.
Deception TechniqueThe mixture of oil (ghee) and alcohol was intended to mimic the appearance of an accidental kitchen fire or electrical short-circuit, while ensuring maximum destruction of organic and trace evidence. To “mislead investigators” and destroy all forensic evidence of strangulation and blunt-force trauma.
Crime Scene ManagementThe woman, who had shifted from forensic science to computer science, waited until the early morning hours and ensured she left the fourth-floor room shortly before the fire erupted at 2:50 am on October 6.To establish an alibi and to ensure the murder was completely masked by the resulting inferno.

Suspicions Lead to Arrest

The plot began to unravel when inconsistencies at the scene and key testimony prompted a deeper look:

  • Relative’s Doubt: The victim’s cousin was the first to express doubts about the nature of the death.
  • CCTV Evidence: Surveillance footage from the building was crucial, showing two people entering the room before the fire and only the accused woman leaving just moments before the blaze was reported.

Investigators credit the quick realization that the death was not accidental, combined with the CCTV evidence, for rapidly identifying the accused and unmasking the meticulously planned revenge murder. The student, her ex-boyfriend, and their accomplice have been taken into custody.
