Former AAP Gujarat Vice-Prez Vashram Sagathiya Rejoins Congress

| Updated: June 21, 2023 20:41

The former vice president of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Gujarat unit Vashram Sagathiya, has returned to the Congress a day after being expelled from AAP. Today, at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan-Paldi in Ahmedabad along with 50 other AAP workers and leaders, Sagathiya joined the Congress in the presence of the party’s state president, Shaktisinh Gohil.

Sagathiya, a prominent Dalit leader from Rajkot, stated that by returning to the Congress, he feels like he has returned to his “home” and admitted that joining AAP and going down the “wrong path” was a mistake.

Vashram Sagathiya consistently expressed concerns about the misuse of power and actions that went against the party’s interests. The party leaders, including Indranil Rajguru, a prominent figure in Rajkot City, have formed an alliance with the Congress. Indranil Rajguru, along with the Sagathiya group led by him, has defected from AAP and joined the Congress, leaving the AAP behind.

Before the 2022 Assembly elections, Indranil Rajguru had already returned, but Sagathiya remained in the AAP.

He contested the elections from the Rajkot rural constituency as well. He received 71,201 votes, but BJP candidate Bhavnuben Babariya secured more than 100,000 votes and won the seat.

Talking to Vibes of India, Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi stated that  “Vashram thought that he would win against the BJP, however, he also knew that BJP is a B team of AAP. He got distracted in the misleading talks of the Aam Aadmi Party, and he joined them.”
