Gujarat’s leading textbooks printer, Gala Print City Limited, lost around ₹27 crores to a fraudster who promised to get a tender from Tamil Nadu Textbooks Corporation. According to the sources in Ahmedabad Cyber cell, it is the first time a case like this has happened in Gujarat’s history.
Initial investigation revealed that a conman approached the Managing Director of Gala Print City Ltd and assured him of a Tamil Nadu Textbooks Corporation tender. In return, he asked for a 15-20% cut as commission.
Agreeing to the deal, Gala Print City’s MD transferred ₹27 crores into his account. However, the fraudster stopped having conversations with him and vanished. After suspecting something wrong, the officer questioned the Tamil Nadu Textbooks and Educational Services Corporation regarding the tender.
However, to the MD’s fright, the corporation refused to provide any such tender or contract to his company. On July 19, the Managing Director lodged a complaint to the Cyber Crime Cell police station. Amit Vasava, Deputy Commissioner of the branch, said it was a sensitive matter. However, he mentioned that the gang is not local and might be from another state.
