Registration for Class 12 board exams this year has recorded a five-year high at 5.91 lakh, thanks to mass promotions in Class 10 by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) in 2021 amid the pandemic.

Of the 8.5 lakh regular students who appeared for Class 10 GSHSEB exams in 2021, over 2.6 lakh students or 31 per cent were given mass promotion. The year 2021 also recorded the highest number of students pass Class 12 with mass promotion awarded to 5.07 lakh regular students.

As per GSHSEB records, the registration of 5.91 lakh is the highest in the past five years. Officials said it could be the highest number of regular students to have registered for Class 12 exams so far. “To accommodate these additional number of students, GSHSEB has roped in extra manpower and made additional infrastructure,” shared GSHSEB chairman A.J. For general stream, 1,833 buildings have been arranged, an increase from 1,400 previous year, while around 90,000 staff will be deployed, against 80,000 the previous year.
