Gujarat Contractors Land In Trouble For Nuke Bomb Jest At Airport

| Updated: April 11, 2024 16:43

Two business contractors from Gujarat landed in trouble for making a jest that they were carrying a nuclear bomb. The duo, hailing from Rajkot, were apprehended on this when they made this remark to a security personnel while boarding a flight at Delhi airport.

The incident prompted a complaint from an airline security supervisor. The complaint centered on two passengers preparing to board a flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad.

According to the complainant, the episode unfolded at the boarding gate when Jignesh Malan and Kashyap Kumar Lalani displayed frustration during security screening, questioning its necessity despite prior checks. Despite explanations from staff regarding security protocols, the passengers grew agitated, with one allegedly joking about carrying a nuclear bomb. Perceiving this as a security threat, the decision was made to offload the passengers, ensuring the safety of all travelers and the aircraft.

DCP (IGIA) Usha Rangnani stated, “Further investigation revealed that the passengers, both men, were business contractors in the construction industry in Rajkot, Gujarat. They had traveled to Dwarka in Delhi to meet a business associate regarding the purchase of stainless steel railing materials.”
A case has been registered under sections 182 (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person) and 505 (whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumor or report) of IPC in connection with the incident.

The officer clarified that both men cooperated with the investigation and were bound down. Being bound down entails a commitment to appear before the investigating officer whenever required, with an obligation to inform authorities of any departure from the city.
