Gujarat Sisters Rescued From Trafficking Trap In Laos After Job Scam

| Updated: June 5, 2026 08:30

What began as a journey in search of better job opportunities turned into a frightening ordeal for two sisters from Gujarat’s Anand district, who were allegedly trapped in Laos after being lured abroad with promises of employment.

The sisters had travelled to Thailand hoping to secure jobs and build a better future. However, according to their account, things took a shocking turn when they were allegedly taken to neighbouring Laos under the pretext of being provided employment in Thailand.

Once in Laos, the women reportedly found themselves caught in an international human trafficking network. The situation became even more alarming when their family lost all contact with them for nearly 20 days, leaving relatives worried about their safety and whereabouts.

As concern grew, the family sought help, bringing the matter to the attention of MP Mitesh Patel. Recognising the seriousness of the situation and the potential danger faced by the two women, Patel immediately initiated a rescue mission named “Operation Mahisagar 2.0”.

Patel quickly reached out to India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Laos. Embassy officials then began working closely with local security agencies to trace the sisters and gather information about their location.

After receiving credible information, diplomatic efforts by Indian authorities and the MP helped pave the way for action on the ground. According to the information shared, the Laos Army conducted a raid at the location where the sisters were allegedly being held captive.

The rescue operation was carried out jointly by the Laos Army and officials from the Indian Embassy. The mission ended successfully, with both women being safely rescued from the alleged traffickers.

Speaking about the operation, Mitesh Patel said the two women were in distress abroad and were on the verge of becoming victims of human trafficking. He said that as soon as their family approached him for help, Operation Mahisagar 2.0 was launched with the support of the Indian Embassy and the Laos Army.

Patel expressed relief and happiness over the successful rescue, stating that both women are now completely safe and are expected to return home soon.

This is not the first time Patel has been involved in helping Gujaratis stranded overseas. Earlier, he had launched “Operation Mahisagar” to assist youths who were stranded in Azerbaijan. According to the statement, the second phase of the mission, Operation Mahisagar 2.0, has also proved to be highly successful.

Following the rescue, the necessary legal and administrative formalities are being completed so that the sisters can return to India and reunite with their family after their traumatic experience abroad.
