Spicejet flight traveling from Mumbai to Durgapur on 1st May 2022 experienced severe turbulence that injured 17 passengers. The airline spokesperson said that passengers received minor injuries because the overhead cabin luggage started dropping on them as the turbulence occurred. Spicejet airline authorities verified the event as the flight landed.
SpiceJet Boeing B737 aircraft operating flight SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur was carrying 188 passengers when it witnessed extreme turbulence on a Sunday evening. The passengers traveling on the flight have had injuries. However, Durgapur airport provided immediate medical assistance to them.
Spicejet has voiced its regret for the incident and is ready to provide the entire medical assistance to the people injured. Sources from the Andal Airport said that the wounded passengers were rushed to a local hospital immediately. All the passengers are out of danger.
The flight took off from Mumbai airport at 5 PM. The flight arrival was 7:30 PM at Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, Andal. But, the flight had to undergo turbulence mid-way. The aircraft pilot somehow managed the situation and landed the aircraft.
Along with the passengers, the turbulence injured three cabin crew members. Some passengers have received stitches, while some got away with simple first aid. One of the passengers had a spinal casualty. According to some reports, the passengers started shouting when the plane was undergoing turbulence.
Meanwhile, the civil aviation authority has ordered a probe into the event.
