High alert has been issued across the country, including Gujarat, following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday. Twenty-eight people, including three from the state, died and several others were injured.
State police and security agencies have stepped up vigilance in Gujarat.
Railway stations and airports are being closely monitored and temple towns of Somnath, Dwarka, Pavagadh and Ambaji are under enhanced security.
Vehicles are being checked and security has been boosted on the borders of the state. Intensified checkings are going on in the sensitive areas of the state.
According to reports, Special Operations Group (SOG) and snipers are on standby at the Ambaji Temple.
Three persons from Gujarat who lost their lives are — Sumit Parmar and Yatesh Parmar (father and son) and Shailesh Kalathiya from Surat.
Gujarat Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, who was in Srinagar for a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, met relatives of Kalathiya. He offered condolences to the bereaved families and discussed a plan to get back mortal remains to Surat at the earliest.
Sources said that top officials convened a meeting in Gandhinagar to monitor the law and order situation and plan for preparedness in case of any eventuality.
G. S. Malik, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, said that an alert has been issued to ensure that there is no communal strife in Ahmedabad after the Pahalgam attack. Social media is being watched and posting inflammatory speeches on the medium will also be dealt with action, he said.
