Amid the backdrop of deaths of four BLOs involved in Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a strange incident has come to light involving a BJP worker and voters in Ahmedabad.
The police have filed cross complaints.
The controversy surrounding SIR does not seem to be dying down in Gujarat. There have been widespread complaints about stress to the BLOs and several representations have also been made.
In fact, in the last one week, Gujarat witnessed deaths of four BLOs – one by suicide and three by heart attacks.
And now in an incident that took place two days ago, a BJP party worker and a couple staying in the same housing society have been involved in a brawl at a Centre where the BLOs were sitting.
According to emerging details, Manish Shah and his wife, Dharini, residents of Chandraguptnagar, had gone to Sahajanand College for documentation in the electoral rolls.
Sriram Modi, a BJP worker, was sitting next to one of the BLOs. It has been reported that when Modi got up from the chair for some time, Shah sat on the chair to fill in the details and that allegedly irritated the BJP worker when he returned.
Modi is alleged to have mistreated Shah and even threatened his wife when she called the police control room. Police registered their complaint as also Modi’s cross complaint against the couple. He alleged that the couple attacked him.
It is alleged that Modi was taking photographs of the details filled in by the voters. He in turn said that he had got a message from the party corporator, Vandana Shah, asking the party workers to assist the BLOs.
