Indian-Origin Couple And Their 9-Year-Old Son Die After Falling From A Luxury London Apartment

| Updated: June 9, 2026 22:07

A heartbreaking incident took place in London where an Indian-origin couple and their 9-year-old son lost their lives after falling from the 36th floor of a luxury apartment building. Police are treating the case as a suspected murder-suicide, while an inquest is underway to determine exactly what happened.

The incident occurred on May 27 at the Highpoint tower block in Elephant and Castle, South London. The family lived on the 36th floor of the 45-storey residential building, which is around 400 feet above the ground.

The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Pai (47), Aditi Paralkar (46), and their 9-year-old son, Sid. According to reports, they fell from the balcony of their apartment and died at the scene.

Emergency services rushed to the location after witnesses called authorities at 7:29 a.m., reporting that a group of people had fallen from a height. Paramedics immediately tried to revive them, but all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Neil Coyle, the Labour MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, Sid was born with severe illnesses and was believed to be suffering from kidney disease. He said that police believe the child’s terminal medical condition may have contributed to the family’s “horrendous decision.”

In a letter sent to residents of the building, Coyle described the incident as an “awful occurrence” and called it a terrible tragedy involving a family of three. He also said that some local residents had witnessed the incident.

Rakesh Pai and Aditi Paralkar were both born in India. They worked as consultants, with Pai working in finance and Paralkar in construction.

Reports also stated that the couple had taken their son to India in 2020 for medical treatment in the hope that his condition would improve. However, after the treatment did not bring the expected results, the family returned to Britain last year.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. An inquest is expected to determine exactly what happened and establish the full facts of the case.
