Johnny Depp Gives Performance At Concert After Defamation Trial

| Updated: May 30, 2022 18:44

Mr. Depp’s attendance comes just days after his legal team filed closing arguments in his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.

On Sunday, Hollywood icon Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance in Sheffield, UK, for a special performance with English guitarist Jeff Beck, who is on tour in Europe.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor and Mr Beck rocked out to their 2020 duet Isolation, a reworking of the 1970 John Lennon classic. According to Deadline, the pair also covered Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On and Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing.

It is worth noting that Mr. Depp travelled directly from Virginia, US, to join his musical collaborator Jeff Beck on tour. His presence comes only days after his legal team filed closing arguments in his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.

Mr. Depp’s admirers burst in delight on social media, calling the Hollywood actor’s performance “wonderful” and “great set.” “Johnny is an absolute lunatic,” one person remarked. “Leaves court Friday..playing a gig with Jeff Beck in Sheffield, UK on Sunday..mind blown.” “He can now breathe and do what he enjoys!” “Well done,” said another.

Mr. Depp’s unexpected performance, however, did not impress everyone. “So Johnny Depp is on tour with Jeff Beck,” they said, referring to the actor’s behaviour during the slander case. That’s the domestic abuse victim awaiting the outcome of his slander action. “The one who was cancelled.” Another person joked, “Poor tortured, traumatised victim of domestic violence Johnny Depp drowning his sorrows in playing gigs,” adding, “I’m in London, I’m quite tempted to turn up to the RAH tomorrow with a #IStandWithAmberHeard sign.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Depp’s six-week-long court case is now in the hands of the jury, which will decide whether Ms Heard defamed the Hollywood star in an opinion article she penned for The Washington Post in 2018. Mr. Depp is suing for $50 million, saying that the domestic abuse allegations have irreparably harmed his career and image.

Amber Heard, on the other hand, is suing Mr Depp in response, accusing him of organising a “smear campaign” against her and describing his action as a continuation of “abuse and harassment.”
