De-extinct dinosaurs now freely walk among humans four years after the volcanic destruction of Isla Nublar and the Lockwood Estate incident. Claire Dearing, a former Jurassic World operations manager, strives to safeguard dinosaurs from unlawful breeding activities. To protect Maisie Lockwood, Sir Benjamin Lockwood’s cloned granddaughter, she and Owen Grady have been residing in a remote mountain cabin in the Sierra Nevada. When Owen’s trained Velociraptor, Blue, unexpectedly appears at the cabin with an offspring, they are taken aback. Maisie names the newborn raptor “Beta,” and the two form a bond that is akin to Owen and Blue’s.

Unbeknownst to Owen and Claire, Maisie has been targeted by Biosyn, a shady bioengineering firm directed by Lewis Dodgson. Dodgson’s operatives capture Maisie and Beta when she slips away to a nearby town, fed up with living in solitude. Owen and Claire rushed out right away to save them. In other parts of the planet, an ancient species of giant locust has resurfaced, posing a threat to global food supplies. Ellie Sattler, a paleobotanist, has found that locusts avoid Biosyn-produced crops, leading her to believe that Biosyn is breeding them. Ellie approaches Dr. Alan Grant, a paleontologist and an old friend, who promises to help stop Biosyn’s operations.

Meanwhile, Claire and Owen follow Beta and Maisie to Malta, where they enter a dinosaur-related criminal market. Dinosaurs are mistakenly freed as Claire and Owen disrupt the market, wreaking chaos. Maisie and Beta are being transferred to Biosyn’s headquarters in the Dolomites mountain area in Italy, according to a Biosyn operator. They meet Kayla Watts, a cargo jet pilot who delivers live cargo for market merchants and has access to Biosyn HQ, while visiting the market. She accepts Owen and Claire’s offer to fly them there.

Ian Malcolm, a chaos theorist, now works for Biosyn. Alan and Ellie are invited to the headquarters to assist him in surreptitiously investigating the locust problem. Ramsay Cole, Biosyn’s communications director, collaborates with Ian and secretly opposes Biosyn’s actions. Biosyn has also hired geneticist Henry Wu, who has secretly produced locust species that are genetically modified to consume rival crops, which Dodgson plans to use to make his more competitive. Wu informs Maisie that she is Charlotte Lockwood’s cloned daughter after she and Beta are transported to Biosyn HQ. Charlotte, Wu’s Site B colleague, desired a kid and created Maisie using her own DNA. Charlotte died of a hereditary ailment, but she had changed Maisie’s DNA to protect her from it. Wu is interested in studying Maisie because he believes she can help him, that her DNA is key to creating a pathogen to halt the locust outbreak. Blue reproduced Beta in the same way, so Wu had ordered Beta’s capture as well.

When Kayla’s cargo plane reaches Biosyn airspace, a group of Quetzalcoatlus attacks it. Claire ejects from the plane, but Owen and Kayla survive the landing. The three reassemble after an encounter with a Therizinosaurus and a Pyroraptor. Ellie and Alan take a locust sample from a laboratory at Biosyn before rescuing Maisie from Wu’s lab and fleeing. Dodgson sets fire to the locust laboratory to remove evidence after seeing the burglars on security camera footage. The fire spreads throughout the complex, engulfing it and the headquarters in flames. Ian gets fired by Dodgson for exposing his operation. Ian aids Alan, Ellie, and Maisie in their escape from the facilities, and the entire crew gathers outside, some for the first time. Dodgson tries to flee using dinosaur embryos (recovered from where Dennis Nedry was killed)

A Giganotosaurus terrorizes the group until the Therizinosaurus and InGen’s surviving Tyrannosaurus rex kill it. The group rescues Wu, who promises to eliminate the locust infestations. The humans escape in a Biosyn aircraft. Back on the mainland, Wu releases a modified locust that carries a pathogen he discovered while studying Maisie and Beta’s DNA, successfully eradicating the locust outbreak. Ellie and Alan renew their relationship as they prepare to testify against Biosyn with Ian and Ramsay. Owen, Claire, and Maisie return home, where Beta is reunited with Blue. Around the world, dinosaurs learn to co-exist with modern animals, while InGen’s Tyrannosaurus encounters two T-rexes that were transported from Isla Sorna.
