The illicit liquor tragedy which claimed the lives of 26 people in the ‘dry state” Gujarat’s Botad taluka has brought major embarrassment to the police and the political leadership of the Pollbound state.
AAP which is vying for the political space in Gujarat found an incredibly attractive point to counter the BJP. Seizing the opportunity swiftly, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal did not lose any time and alleged that Illicit liquor sellers are enjoying political protection in Gujarat. He termed the hooch tragedy “unfortunate”.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener who is incidentally in Gujarat demanded a thorough probe into the “trail” of money generated by selling illegal liquor. AAP is leaving no stone unturned in its campaign for Gujarat is evident from the fact that this is Arvind Kejriwal’s third visit to the state in a month.
AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal said while replying to queries of reporters on the hooch tragedy “It is unfortunate that despite prohibition, illegal liquor is sold in huge quantities in Gujarat. Who are the people who sell illegal liquor? They enjoy political protection. Where does the money (generated by selling illegal liquor) go? This needs to be probed,” he said.
26 people have died after consuming spurious liquor at Rojid village, in Botad Taluka. It is one of the most horrible hooch tragedies after the one in 2009 when 123 people died. ATS has also joined the investigation now.
