The veteran theatre and cinema performer Kochu Preman, also known as KS Premkumar, passed away on Saturday. He was 68. He passed away in Thiruvananthapuram, receiving treatment for lung disease at a private hospital.
He was born in Thiruvananthapuram on June 1st, 1955. He enrolled in Mahatma Gandhi College after completing his primary education at a government school in Peyad. Kochu Preman had a great career in theatre before he turned to film, making his screen debut in 1979 with “Ezhu Nirangal”. After a brief break, he made a comeback with the 1996 smash single “Dilliwala Rajakumaran”.
His comedic portrayals of characters in films like Thilakkam, Kalyanaraman, and Thenkasipattanam are what people remember him for most. He appeared in a number of Malayalam television series as well. Additionally, he performed with drama groups like Kerala Theaters, Kalidasa Kalakendram, and Sanghachethana. His last film, “Oru Pappadavada Premam,” came out in 2021.
He is survived by his wife and actor Girija Preman and son, Harikrishnan.
