Ahmedabad Collector Sandeep Sangle fulfills wish of terminally sick 11-year-old girl

| Updated: September 22, 2021 12:16

Ahmedabad District Collector Sandeep Sangle fulfilled the wish of Flora, who is suffering from a brain tumour, by giving her the opportunity to become a ‘Collector’ for a day.

Flora’s mother, Sonalben Asodia, recounts the story, saying, “My 11-year-old daughter Flora, an 8th standard student, always had a dream to become a collector after her studies. But after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour seven months ago, we were all concerned about how this would happen. We are very happy that Flora got a chance to have her dream come true.”

When Ahmedabad District Collector Sangle came to know about Flora’s desire, he agreed to make her a collector for one day without any delay. Flora, who lives in Sargasan, was brought to the Ahmedabad District Collector’s Office in the District Collector’s vehicle. She was given a guard of honour at her doorstep and taken directly to the District Collector’s Chamber. Besides Flora’s family members, Additional Resident Collector Parimal Pandya, Additional Resident Deputy Collector Yogiraj Singh Gohil, Dowry Prohibition Officer Nileshwariba Vaghela and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

“The District Collector personally placing her on his chair, which brought a big smile to Flora’s face,” adds Asodia. Describing the incident, Sangle says, “Flora has always been a brilliant student. When I heard about her wish, I sent my officers to her house. Due to her fragile health, Flora’s parents were hesitant to do this. But I convinced them. It is a matter of pride for me to have this opportunity.” The district administration also gifted Flora a tablet and Barbie Girl set to mark the occasion. A cake was also cut in the collector’s chamber to mark Flora’s birthday.

Flora’s father Apurvabhai Asodia is all praise for Sangle. “We will never forget this warm gesture of the district collector for the rest of our lives,” he says.

On the day, Flora distributed gifts to beneficiaries under the ‘Whali Dikari Yojana’ and ‘Widow Sahay Yojana’. Her family is confident that after this, she will be able to defeat the deadly disease, become a collector and serve the people.
