Accounts of two to three realty groups in Ahmedabad have come under the scrutiny of the income tax department for alleged tax evasion. At present, the I-T department is conducting investigations on the builder groups.
Those whose names have surfaced in the alleged discrepancies include individuals like Trikambhai Patel and Anilbhai Patel, who have been involved in various projects in the city, including Science City Road, among other areas. They are facing tax evasion investigations along with three other groups, including Avirat Group and Shiparma group.
Currently, officials are examining documents for further information into their activities. According to available information, Kanubhai Patel, Sandeepbhai Patel, and Baldevbhai Patel from the Avirat Group are also being investigated.
Also two brokers from Ahmedabad, associated with the builders are under scrutiny. The I-T department is conducting investigations on offices of these builders near the high court and other locations.
In this investigation, over 150 officials from the department have been engaged, and a significant breakthrough is expected by the end of the probe.
It should be noted that the department had conducted a major operation against builder groups in Ahmedabad before. Known builders, such as Swati Buildcon, were targeted by I-T teams, and about 40 locations were raided simultaneously by the investigation team.
Last month, there were raids on prominent chemical and pharmaceutical companies in the city. More than 20 locations were searched, involving over 100 officials in the search operations.
