A man in Vadodara allegedly fed potassium gold cyanide mixed in sugarcane juice to his family of three, resulting in the death of his father and wife. The 52-year-old man, identified as Chetan Soni, who consumed poison while being questioned by police at his residence, is currently battling for life at SSG hospital along with his 24-year-old son.
The police booked the man, a metal polisher under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR mentioned that potassium gold cyanide was used in the murders. The FIR was lodged based on a complaint filed by Manoj Soni, the brother of Chetan’s wife.
The deceased have been identified as Chetan’s father Manoharlal and wife Bindu. City’s Makarpura police said that Chetan planned and executed the killings after running into heavy debt.
Manoharlal and Bindu succumbed at their home in Tarsali. Chetan, meanwhile, rushed his son Aakash to the hospital, where he allegedly first blamed Bindu for feeding poison to his family. Later, while he was being questioned by police, Chetan consumed poison, cops said.
Makarpura police inspector JN Parmar said, “According to Bindu’s family members, the Sonis did not reveal that they were in a financial crisis.”
However, primary investigation has revealed that Chetan was in deep debt. “He had access to the chemical, which is widely used for gold polishing metal. He ran a small polishing business and owed a lot of money to his creditors. We have booked Soni for the murder of his wife and father as well as attempted murder of his son,” Parmar said.
