Mass Exodus From AAP, BJP In Gujarat As Hundreds Join Congress

| Updated: October 20, 2023 14:18

With the election season nearing, hundreds of young individuals from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are joining the Congress party in Gujarat that has sparked a significant political debate.

In a gathering at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Ahmedabad, Gujarat State President of the Congress, Shaktisinh Gohil presided over an event where numerous individuals abandoned their former affiliations with the BJP and AAP in favour of the Congress.

This ongoing recruitment drive within the Congress has strengthened Gohil’s position, who has recently assumed leadership in the Gujarat Congress. During the event, leaders from the Congress regional organisation warmly welcomed those formerly associated with the AAP and the BJP into the Congress fold.

These new recruits predominantly hailed from various districts, including Sabarkantha and Panchmahal. Among the converts were prominent figures such as former BJP taluka president Pravinsinh Jhala from Kodinar and former Santrampur BJP corporator Harshad Mehta, who transitioned to the Congress.

The political landscape in Gujarat has been characterised by intensified local activity.

In recent times, a discernible trend has emerged wherein leaders and activists from the Congress and AAP have defected from their respective parties to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The infusion of BJP and AAP members into the Congress has sparked extensive discussions in Gujarat’s political sphere. And as a majority of these new members hail from districts such as Sabarkantha and Panchmahal, further fueling the political discourse in the region. Notably, significant changes have been observed in Gujarat Congress following Shaktisinh Gohil’s appointment as the state organisation’s leader.
