The body of a 15-year-old school-going girl was found wrapped in a blanket and stuffed in a travel bag near Naigaon railway station on Friday. The girl, identified as Vanshita Kanaiyalal Rathod, was missing from her Andheri home since Thursday afternoon. Inspector Rahul Kumar Patil of Waliv Police Station said that at 3 pm, he received a call from Naigaon Railway Police that a bag containing the body of a girl was found in the bushes near the newly constructed East-West Bridge at Naigaon Railway Station. The police have registered a case of murder and are trying to find her killer.
Patil said that on reaching the spot, they found the dead body of the girl in a bag. The girl had stab wounds in her abdomen. The bag had some clothes along with a towel and a school uniform from Andheri.
Officials of Andheri Police Station said that Vanshita had left for school on Thursday morning, but did not return home till evening. Andheri police had registered a case of kidnapping.
It is not yet clear whether Vanshita was taken against her will. The police are yet to find the weapon that killed the girl.
The police are trying to trace the culprits by looking at the recordings of CCTV cameras installed at railway stations from Andheri to Naigaon. They are also checking the CCTV recordings of the girl’s house and the area around the school to find out how she went missing. A case under section 302 has been registered in Waliv police station in Vasai in connection with this incident.
