Newly Elected Gujarat BJP Govt Arrests AAP’s Italia In “Old Case”

| Updated: December 20, 2022 21:50

Election fervour over, it is time to settle political scores. At least, that is what AAP leader Gopal Italia’s arrest suggests.

The young leader and a prominent AAP face was arrested by Bhavnagar police on Tuesday in connection with an “old case” of allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Taking instantly to his Twitter handle, Italia posted: “People of Gujarat voted a corrupt party to power with absolute majority. This is their corrupt ways. My grandmother passed away yesterday and just when the family has been plunged into grief, this comes as insult on the injury.”

AAP’s Gujarat convenor, Italia was visiting Bhavnagar in connection with the attack on a party worker in Dhola village, Umrala taluka. The police seized him while he was on this visit.
As for the old case, on September 4, 2022, a youth from the Ahir community had lodged a complaint about how Italia had allegedly

insulted Lord Krishna by comparing him to demons. The police had registered a case under Sections 295A and 298 of the IPC.

In the same case, Italia had been arrested and later released on bail. However, seems the slug fest has just begun and Italia’s statement corroborates the “Instead of law and order, the police are taking interest in my arrest.”
