With an eye on the Olympics 2036, which Gujarat will bid to host, the government has readied the master plan for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave.
The specialty facility is likely to be ready in three years and promises to be the country’s largest integrated sports infrastructure precinct.
“The enclave is planned for state-of-the-art events, keeping in view aspects such as broadcasting, security, media and operations and transportation, on a par with global standards.
The master plan has been prepared keeping in mind crowd movement, safety and visitor experience,” top sources in the government said.
Commenting on sports venues, sources in government said they have been designed in line with global benchmarks. “The venues with planned, integrated retail and hospitality infrastructure will provide an unmatched fan experience. These are benchmarked against some of the best sporting venues globally,” sources added.
“The venues and their designs have been envisioned as multifunctional and multipurpose to the extent possible to allow flexibility for hosting multiple events,” officials said.
The SVP Sports Enclave will have over 2-km long riverfront frontage and will house an international dining district, commercial and retail facilities, outdoor play areas and the like. Instead of creating new facilities with significant investments for the Olympics, the authorities plan to use Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre facilities for operations as an international broadcasting centre and the main media centre, government sources said.
The SVP Sports Enclave will come up over an area of 236 acres in Motera, adjacent to the Narendra Modi stadium. It is expected to cost about Rs 6,000 crore and can host 20 sports disciplines over 93 lakh sq ft of built-up area.
