| Updated: March 2, 2025 17:44

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on Saturday evening for a three-day visit. He is set to chair a meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) and visit Vantara, an animal rescue, conservation, and rehabilitation centre.

A large number of people lined the roads as the Prime Minister’s motorcade made its way from the airport to the circuit house.

On Sunday morning, Modi visited Vantara, which spans 3,000 acres within the Reliance Jamnagar refinery complex.

The facility serves as a rescue centre for captive elephants and other wildlife, providing sanctuary, rehabilitation, and medical care to animals rescued from abuse and exploitation.

According to the facility’s website, Vantara houses over 2,000 animals across 43 species and is equipped with advanced veterinary equipment and spacious enclosures that mimic natural habitats.

The centre employs more than 2,100 staff members and also empowers local communities by offering sustainable livelihood opportunities and training in humane animal care practices.

Later, the Prime Minister proceeded to Somnath Temple in Gir Somnath district, where he offered prayers before chairing a meeting of the Shree Somnath Trust, which manages the place of worship. Modi is the chairperson of the trust.

Afterwards, Modi travelled to Sasan, the headquarters of Gir National Park, where he stayed overnight.

On Monday, he will embark on a jungle safari before returning to ‘Sinh Sadan‘ to chair a meeting of the NBWL as its ex-officio chairman.

The NBWL has 47 members, including the Chief of Army Staff, members from different States, representatives from NGOs working in wildlife conservation, chief wildlife wardens, and secretaries from various States.

Officials stated that after the meeting, Modi will interact with some women forest staffers at Sasan.
