Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday removed her nephew Akash Anand from all party posts and declared that there would be no successor to her in the party during her lifetime.
The announcement was made at a high-level meeting in Lucknow attended by party office bearers from across the country.
During the meeting, Mayawati announced major changes in the party leadership, appointing her brother Anand Kumar and senior party leader Ramji Gautam as national coordinators to oversee BSP affairs nationwide.
“I will not announce any successor in the party till I am alive. For me, the party and the movement are supreme, and relations come later,” she stated.
The decision marks the second time Akash Anand has been removed from party positions. He was dismissed last year but was later reinstated and designated as Mayawati’s political successor.
Last month, Mayawati expelled Ashok Siddharth, the father-in-law of Akash Anand and a former Rajya Sabha MP, from the party over allegations of factionalism and anti-party activities.
Along with Siddharth, Nitin Singh, the BSP’s Meerut district in-charge responsible for overseeing party operations in southern states, was also expelled.
The restructuring of the party leadership comes as the BSP seeks to strengthen its organisational framework ahead of future political challenges.
