Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Indore tomorrow. The Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was launched in Indore. Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar opened the event by stating that younger generations are leading the way in bridging India to the rest of the globe through studying, working, and travelling abroad.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the previous Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas conference was essentially conducted in 2021. The convention will take place this year from January 8–10 in Indore with Madhya Pradesh serving as the partner state.

The convention’s chief guest will be President of Guyana Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali. An Austrailian Lawmaker Zaneta Mascarenhas will be the Guest of Honor, and President of Suriname Chandrikapersad Santokhi will be the Special Guest of Honor.

The Madhya Pradesh government issued a statement announcing the convention’s theme for this year as “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal”. “The theme incorporates Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat over the next 25 years, and important partnership role to be played by the overseas Indians in achieving this vision of a New India”, the government statement added.

PM Modi will also unveil a commemorative postage stamp with the words “Surakshit Jaayen, Prashikshit Jaayen” and open a digital exhibition with the theme “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)- Contribution of Diaspora in Indian Freedom Struggle.” On Day 3 of the Convention, the President of India will deliver a farewell speech and present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards.
