Pounding Rain Led to Damage and Death in Gujarat

| Updated: July 9, 2022 11:14

The state’s streets and farmlands resembled a whirlpool of a water hurricane as it rained cats and dogs in Gujarat.

Nine people have died as per information as of now.

In Vadodra

A grandmother-granddaughter duo was found dead after the kutcha house they used to stay in Khedapa district of Santrampur taluka in Mahisagar district collapsed. Savita Parghi was 56, and her granddaughter Srushti, only 2 at the time of their deaths.

The third death was of Harshad Machhi (15) who was struck by lightening in the Saadra village of Shehra taluka in Panchmahal villkage while he was returning home from his farm. His body was taken for autopsy after the incident.

Local Districts

Two people from Mahisagar and Kutch districts each, and one from Panchmahal and Devbhumi Dwarka both, were found dead due to the torrential rain that continued to flow in Gujarat in the past week.

The chaos was not limited to this, as water flooded homes and shops in Saurashtra and inundation prevented state highways from functioning normally, connectivity was broken between villages and towns. Due to such unpredictable conditions, schools in Jamnagar declared a holiday.

Luckily, the life of a man in Nakhatrana in Kutch was saved by proactive help by locals and policemen. The man was dragged away with his scooter due to the heavy flow of water in the rain.

Prediction for the future

The weather department predicted heavy rainfall to continue in the coming days. He also shared that the cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and Gujarat was responsible for the pummeling rainfall in the State.
