| Updated: December 13, 2024 13:20

Telugu actor Allu Arjun has been taken into custody by police over a stampede that occurred during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2 in Hyderabad on December 4.

The incident resulted in the death of a 39-year-old woman, leaving her nine-year-old son critically injured.

Authorities had registered a case against the management of Sandhya Theatre, the actor and his security team, stating they were not informed in advance about the film’s team attending the premiere.

A team from the Chikkadpally police station, where the complaint was filed, arrested Arjun on Friday.

“A case has been filed under BNS section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) at Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint of the family members of the deceased person,” Akshansh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police of Central Zone, Hyderabad Police, told a section of the media at the time of filing the FIR.

“It is being investigated. Stringent action as per law will be taken against all the persons responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre leading to the death of a person and injury to others,” he added.
