Raj Kundra Summoned by ED in Money Laundering Probe

| Updated: December 1, 2024 18:02

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actor Shilpa Shetty, for questioning in connection with a money laundering investigation related to the alleged illegal distribution of pornographic films.

Kundra has been directed to appear before the investigating officer this week.

According to the reports, several other people who are connected to the investigation have also been called in.

On November 29, the central agency searched the premises of Kundra in Mumbai and other individuals in several areas in Uttar Pradesh.

Kundra stated on Saturday that he was “fully complying” with the four-year-old probe that is still going on. The actor was not the target of the action, according to Shetty’s lawyer, and Kundra was “cooperating in the investigation for the truth to come out.”

At least two FIRs and chargesheets against Kundra and others were filed with the Mumbai Police, which led to the money laundering case in May 2022. After being held in connection with the case, the businessman and a few others eventually got out on bail.

This is Kundra’s second money laundering case. In a cryptocurrency case earlier this year, the ED had seized assets belonging to Kundra and Shetty valued at Rs 98 crore.

However, the Bombay High Court granted the couple relief from this attachment order.

The businessman informed a local Mumbai court in 2021 that the prosecution (Mumbai Police) had not a single piece of evidence linking the app “Hotshots,” which was utilised in the alleged porn film racket, to an illegal act.
