A 10th-grade girl in Sabarkantha district, Gujarat, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by her teacher, is determined to follow her dream of becoming a police officer.
A 33-year-old teacher in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district had reportedly raped her after taking her to a hotel on February 7th under the pretext of a birthday celebration. The teacher then allegedly raped and assaulted her and even threatened to fail the victim in the upcoming board exams.
Incidentally, a few days earlier, the teacher delivered an inspiring speech on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ on Republic Day.
The police arrested the teacher after the incident.
According to a news report, the girl has been staying with her aunt, who is her source of emotional shelter. She has the company of her cousins who too are preparing for their exams.
Her uncle told a media house that they did not want people and relatives coming over and distracting her from her studies. He expressed immense pride in her strength adding that they were moved by her courage. He assured that they would support her at every juncture, regardless of the challenges ahead.
Her school principal has lauded her devotion towards academics saying that she never missed a class.
The girl said that even though science and math are her favourite subjects, her career path would depend on the results of her board exams. Hailing from a family of agricultural labourers, she believes that education alone can break the cycle of poverty that had constrained generations before her.
