Saif Case Takes Hitchcock-ian Proportions as Police Collect Actor’s Blood Samples

| Updated: January 28, 2025 13:08

The investigations into the attempted burglary at Saif Ali Khan’s residence remain inconclusive. As the English saying goes, “No matter how many times I turn around, I’m still stuck in the same spot.”

The case is taking on Alfred Hitchcock-like proportions, with the Mumbai Police collecting the actor’s blood samples and clothing for analysis.

Even though Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that confusion should not arise regarding the incident, there’s nothing to suggest that the Mumbai police have come remotely close to cracking the case accurately.

In a latest development, the police recorded the statement of a woman from West Bengal whose Aadhaar card was allegedly used by the accused, Shariful Islam Shehzad, to purchase a SIM card.

The Mumbai police said that an investigative team travelled to West Bengal to record statements from two individuals.

Additionally, the police recorded a statement from a relative of the accused, who resides in West Bengal. The police informed that Shariful sought the relative’s assistance to obtain the Aadhaar card from the woman to buy the SIM.

Despite having a strong track record in solving high-profile cases, the Mumbai police have yet to demonstrate their capability in what should have been a straightforward case involving Khan.

Compounding their challenges was the mismatch between the fingerprints of the Shariful and the samples collected from the crime scene.

Reports indicated that the 19 fingerprint samples collected from the crime scene did not match Shariful’s, raising serious questions about the investigation’s integrity. Furthermore, CCTV footage appeared to show a different individual at the scene rather than Shariful.

Adding to the controversy, a man from Chhattisgarh named Akash Kailash Kanaujia was adversely affected by a mistake made by the Mumbai police. According to reports, he was erroneously arrested as a suspect in the stabbing case, resulting in the loss of his job and the rejection of a marriage proposal. He now plans to demand justice by standing outside Khan’s building.

Akash’s grandmother Tulsa Bai Yadav was quoted as saying, “He worked in Mumbai and wasn’t in frequent contact with us. But the railway police wrongly detained him, leading to the loss of his job and the cancellation of his marriage proposal. Now, we have demanded compensation from the government.”
