Asaram, who is serving a sentence in the case of rape of a minor, had filed a bail petition in the Supreme Court. The apex court has rejected the petition. The court said that since the trial against Asaram is still going on, he cannot be released on bail.
The hearing of the case against Asaram is to be held in January.
Asaram had also sought permission to present other witnesses in the trial court. In his plea, he had also cited his old age and poor health. He pleaded that he needs better treatment. Asaram is in jail for the last nine years
The Jodhpur police had arrested Asaram from Chhindwara in the case of rape of a minor of his ashram. After a prolonged hearing, the SC/ST court and the POCSO court sentenced Asaram to jail till his last breath.
Asaram’s associates including Sharad Chandra and Shilpi were also sentenced to 20 years each. Both of them are currently out on bail.
