Security Agencies Worry Ahead Of Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Yatra In Kashmir

| Updated: January 17, 2023 12:17

Security agencies have advised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to avoid specific sections of the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kashmir.

A senior official said, “A detailed plan has been put in place to secure him and it has been advised that he should avoid travelling certain stretches on foot and instead travel in car.”

The specifics of night halts are still being worked out as part of a compressive security evaluation. On January 25, the 52-year-old Congress leader is scheduled to hoist the National flag in Banihal, and two days later, on January 27, he will enter Srinagar via Anantnag.

When RaGa travels in Srinagar, the security agencies want just a small group of individuals to travel with him, the official added.

According to the schedule, Rahul Gandhi would arrive in Lakhanpur on January 19 and, after spending the night there, leave for Kathua’s Hatli Morh the following morning. The yatra will begin early on January 21 from Hiranagar to Duggar Haveli and continue on January 22 from Vijaypur to Satwari.

“Some stretches are sensitive so we have advised his team to identify people who would be in the inner cordon with him,” an informed source said.

Rahul Gandhi currently has Z+ level security cover, which means he is under the constant watch of 8–9 commandos. As many security lapses were discovered along the yatra route, the Congress had requested last month that the Centre strengthen his cover.

In response to the Congress, the Center said that Rahul Gandhi had violated his security clearance more than 100 times since 2020.
